I was not necessarily looking for a purple bed in bag set, but I kept coming back to this one and I was skeptical about the price ($67 including shipping) It's always been a struggle to find Ca King bedding for a decent price. Well, I ordered it and it promptly arrived. As it happens, the overall color scheme of my bedroom has some purple tones to it along with beige, greens and blues. I was very surprised that this set coordinated with my existing art work, pillow shams, valence, wall color and carpeting. I should say that the carpet is grayish/blue, and the walls are in the blue family.
The color you see in the picture, is the color you get. It's very lush looking and I love the feel of it. It's not heavy at all which for us is a good thing. It's very soft and cuddly.
Comforter: I did check the stitching out on all the sides and the ticking (I think it's called) arranged on the top. All looked good. It has 2 front to back solid stitching on each side of the comforter that helps in centering the whole comforter on the bed. I read the care instructions and was stunned to read that this comforter is machine washable (cold water/gentle cycle) and you can machine dry it. The tag also suggested dry cleaning. It is plenty long on all sides. We have a platform bed with drawers underneath, and it settles just above the drawers.
The underside of the comforter is a satin type material that at first I was concerned it would slide all over the bed. Maybe it's because the bed is so big, but this turned out to not be an issue for us at all.
Bed Skirt: Our bed does not require a bed skirt but there is plenty of material to make the micro suede part into another valance, probably with material left over.
Pillow Shams: They are made for king size pillows and I inspected these as well. No flaws
Square Pillows: It comes with 2 of these, and one of them has additional stitching on it in a lighter color I have not quite figured out, and it makes a little indentation on one corner, but I am able to hide that part when it's on the bed. I have 3 pillows in the purple/blue/beige/green combo and I ended up alternating the 2 new pillows with these 3 older ones. I have 5 on the bed and it looks quite nice.
Neck Pillow: I admit I'm not using it as I can't find a way to make it look nice on the bed. It's kind of the odd pillow out. If you are into neck pillows, you will love it. It may take a few days to get the lumps out of this particular pillow. Because it is round, the lumps are more noticeable. I believe it is due to the packaging of the whole set that it comes out lumpy. It's all compressed in a zipper bag. I noticed that it settled pretty good after working it and letting it sit for a few days.
On all the pillows, the tags read that they are machine washable too! I would have scoffed at this except that I let the Neck Pillow be my guinea pig and washed and dried it as instructed (cold/gentle & low) When removing from the dryer, I did note a little bleed onto the inside of my dryer in a few spots (nothing that Mr. Clean erasers can't handle) but I took the pillow to compare with the rest of the bedding and could not detect a color difference. I was very pleased.
So pleased, that today I swallowed hard and put my comforter into our front loading machines and though it took 3 drying cycles, I got my clean comforter out in one piece. Absolutely no clumping and no loose stitching and very importantly no weird tyedye with different shades of purple. I know that now and then I will probably take it to the cleaners but I'm so relieved and pleased that I can wash and dry it here at home. This is especially important because we have cats and dogs. I have been using a Pet Hair Pick Up on it every morning, but today one of my dogs was licking her paw and she licked the bed. Uggh!
I already had a friend order the same set and she loves it. I just wanted to take the time to review it here and maybe help someone else buy this beautiful set.
